Process knowledge, then judgment about applying it
Part of the exam is knowledge: predictive and adaptive approaches, the process areas, the vocabulary. That part rewards study directly and is the half most candidates are comfortable with.
The rest is situational. Given a scenario, what does the project manager do next. Candidates without much project experience have nothing to pattern-match against, so they answer from what seems sensible, and PMI's answer is frequently the one that follows process rather than the one that solves the problem fastest.
That gap is closeable without experience, because the reasoning is consistent. Understand the stakeholder before acting. Escalate through the right route. Do not change scope without going through change control. Practicing items with that lens is more useful than more content review.

Frequently Asked Questions
PMI does not publish an official pass rate for the CAPM, and figures you find online are estimates from training providers with an interest in the number. We would rather tell you that than repeat a figure we cannot source.
It depends on your experience. The PMP requires documented project leadership experience; the CAPM is designed for people who do not yet have it. Check PMI's current eligibility requirements, because they have changed and they decide this rather than preference.
