A case conceptualization is a theory applied to a person, not a summary of one
The assignment that catches most counseling students is the case conceptualization. The client history goes in, the presenting problem goes in, and then the paper describes what is happening rather than explaining it through a theoretical lens. A CBT conceptualization has to name the cognitions, the behaviors and the maintaining cycle. A psychodynamic one has to do something entirely different with the same material. Choosing a theory and then not using it is the most expensive mistake on the rubric.
Process recordings have the opposite problem. Students write what they wish they had said. The whole point of the exercise is the gap between the intervention you made and the one the moment called for, and a recording with no gap in it gives your supervisor nothing to teach from.
