Privacy Policy

1. Who controls your information

TutorTerm ("we", "us") is responsible for personal information collected through tutorterm.com and in the course of providing our services. You can contact us about anything in this policy via our contact page, or by email at [email protected].

2. Notice of collection

This is the notice of collection required by California law, and it is a fair summary for every state. In the past twelve months we have collected the following categories of personal information:

• Identifiers: name, email address, and a phone or messaging number if you choose to give one. Collected to answer you, quote for work and deliver it. Kept as described in section 8.
• Commercial information: the service requested, word count, deadline, academic level and subject area. Collected to price and deliver your order.
• Your documents: the files you send for editing, review or feedback, and anything personal you have written inside them. Collected only to do the work you asked for.
• Internet and device activity: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location from IP address, browser and device type. Collected to run the site, keep it secure, measure which pages help students, and measure advertising.
• Inferences: audience and interest categories our advertising and analytics providers may derive from the activity above.

We do not collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, or biometric information. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. We do not sell your personal information for money, and we never have. Sharing for advertising is covered in section 6, which is the part that matters legally.

3. Payment information

Payments are handled by our payment provider. Full card details are entered with them, not with us: we never see or store a card number.

4. How we use your information

• To prepare quotes, deliver orders and provide support.
• To match your document with an appropriately qualified editor.
• To keep the site and our systems secure, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
• To understand which pages help students and to measure our advertising.
• To meet legal, accounting and tax obligations.
• With your consent only: occasional service updates, which you can stop at any time.

We do not use your documents to train AI models, and we do not give them to anyone outside the editor and quality checker working on your order.

5. What this site sets in your browser

There is no cookie banner on this site. US privacy law works on opt-out rather than opt-in, so instead of asking you to click through a box, we tell you plainly what runs here and give you a way to turn it off. The following are active on every page:

• Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager. Sets cookies that measure pages viewed, how you arrived and whether you contacted us. This is analytics and advertising measurement, and the identifiers it sets can be used for advertising.
• Tawk.to live chat. Sets cookies so a conversation survives a page change and so we can recognize a returning conversation. If you type into the chat, what you type is stored by Tawk.to as well as by us.
• Cloudflare Turnstile, on the quote form only. Used to tell a person from a bot. It does not track you across other websites.
• Strictly necessary items: basic server logs and security records needed to serve the site at all.

If we run advertising campaigns, the Google tag above also measures which ad led to an enquiry. That is what section 6 refers to.

6. Sharing for advertising, and how to stop it

US state privacy laws use the word "share" in a specific way: disclosing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, meaning advertising based on your activity across sites that are not ours. Running Google advertising with personalization counts as sharing in that sense, even though no money changes hands and we sell nothing.

So that this policy stays true whether or not a campaign is running at the moment you read it: treat this site as sharing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and use the opt-out below if you do not want that.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

You can opt out in any of these ways. You do not have to create an account, and we will not ask you why.

• Turn on Global Privacy Control. Global Privacy Control is a setting in some browsers and extensions that sends an automatic opt-out signal to every site you visit. We honor it. When we receive it, we treat it as a valid request to stop sharing your information for advertising, for that browser, without you having to contact us.
• Ask us directly. Send "Do Not Sell or Share" to [email protected], or use the contact page. We action it within 15 business days.
• Opt out at Google. You can turn off personalized advertising in Google My Ad Center, which applies across every site, not only this one.

Opting out does not stop you using this site, does not change your price, and does not change the service you get. It is unlawful for us to penalize you for it, and we would not want to.

7. Who else sees your information

• Your document is visible only to your assigned editor and, for dissertation and thesis orders, a senior quality editor.
• We use a small number of service providers: payment processing, email delivery, secure file storage, live chat, analytics and website security. Each is bound by a contract limiting them to the work we ask of them. A current list is available on request.
• We disclose information to law enforcement or a regulator only where the law requires it.

8. Retention and deletion

• Documents: permanently deleted from our systems 30 days after delivery.
• Order and contact records: kept for up to 6 years where required for tax and accounting purposes, then deleted.
• Analytics records: retained for up to 14 months by our analytics provider, then deleted automatically.
• You may ask us to delete your information sooner (see section 9); we will, unless a legal obligation requires us to keep a record.

9. Security

Files are stored with encryption at rest and in transit, access is limited to the people who need it for your order, and every editor is bound by confidentiality obligations. No system is perfectly secure, but we maintain safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of academic documents.

10. Your rights

State privacy laws differ, and which of these you can enforce depends on where you live. We extend all of them to every student who asks, wherever they are, because operating one process is simpler than operating fifty:

• Know what personal information we hold about you, and how we got it;
• Get a portable copy of it;
• Correct information that is wrong;
• Request deletion;
• Opt out of sharing for advertising (section 6);
• Limit the use of sensitive personal information, though we do not collect any;
• Not be discriminated against, in price or service, for exercising any of these.

To exercise any right, contact us through the contact page or at [email protected]. We will not make you create an account to ask. We verify identity before acting on a request, usually by replying to the email address already on the order. We respond within 45 days, and tell you if we need longer. An authorized agent may act for you with written permission.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to raise the matter with your state attorney general.

11. Where your information is processed

Your information is processed and stored in the United States wherever possible. Where a provider operates outside the United States, we require contractual safeguards covering how that information is handled and how quickly it is deleted.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy; the current version is always on this page with its revision date at the top. If a change materially affects an order in progress, we tell you by email rather than relying on you to notice.
