Which pain scale should I use?
It depends on age and developmental ability. Behavioral scales such as FLACC suit infants and children who cannot self-report. Faces scales suit younger children who can. Numeric scales suit older children and adolescents. Naming the scale and saying why it fits this child is usually worth points.
